Paw Track Kerala
Paw Track Kerala" is a pioneering initiative that integrates animal welfare, public health, and community participation to address the escalating stray dog crisis in Kerala. Anchored in the One Health framework, the project aims to scientifically reduce stray dog populations through sterilization and mass vaccination, while enhancing rabies prevention and post-bite care. Core strategies include establishing Aadhaar-linked dog registries, community-managed shelters led by Kudumbashree units, and monthly ABC camps with mobile surgical units. Waste management reforms and digital tracking systems will curb food sources and improve data collection. The project also emphasizes public awareness, responsible pet ownership, and GIS-based mapping of bite hotspots. Drawing inspiration from successful models in Lucknow, Shimla, Bhutan, and the Netherlands, PawTrack Kerala envisions a humane, data-driven, and scalable solution. With phased implementation across panchayats and robust monitoring indicators, the initiative seeks to halve bite incidents, vaccinate over 70% of strays, and build lasting community trust.
